24th July 2018

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten, has received the support of the Government for the introduction of the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). Under the scheme, renewable energy generation will be incentivised in an effort to reach EU renewable energy targets by 2030. In addition, the scheme will be responsible for delivering a number of other policy objectives, such as, greater community participation and involvement in renewable energy genaration, meeting a number of different renewable energy and emissions targets in 2020 and 2030, as well as ensuring a greater level of technological diversification for renewable energy production.

The scheme will also see the creation of "Renewable Electricity Auctions". These auctions will see different renewable energy generation projects bid for state funding and support. More information on the auctions, and the Renewable Energy Support Scheme is available from the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment's website.
